Rayfire

If You're Reading This, You're In Their World.

OK, peeps. =). Before I get going, the idea of this page is to explain to you the basics of Rayfire, the general plot, and just stuff related to it!

Rayfire is one of those tales that is best told around a campfire in the evenings, as it's an adventure novel, and adventure novels, I find, are more interesting to relate. When I'm writing it, I play the scene through my head - a bit like a movie, or a film. This is one way I write: though the easy, and most effective and the one I use the most, is when I put myself in the characters place. What would they do? Taste? See? Smell? Hear? How would they react to something or other? How would they feel about so-or-so?

You get the idea.

I rigged up this page to help you understand the plot - with out revealing too much! The thing is, I don't want you to know everything. Sort of keep you on edge. The image above also explains the feel of the story and it's setting and what it's based on. Weird I know. =P

So read away and enjoy. =D

The Plot

Before we start, read this little blurb-y thing:

Pointing Rayfire forward, a flash of sunlight glinting on the fabled weapon, I eyed down the blade. I felt as if I was a puppet; the word seemed to roll out of my mouth, almost unwillingly…

“Chaaaaaaaaaaaarge!”

Tyrants have always reigned over the Empire. No one stopped them. Only the Rayfires dared to defy them. When Troy embarks on the greatest journey of his lifetime, he is blinded by a deadly rage; battle fire. It is battle fire that drove Troy to do what he did... a single thrust which changed his whole life.

And now, it seems that Troy is paying the price...

The idea is that Rayfires, who play an important part in the story - duh! Try the title - are warrors, with many being possessed with battle fire, though this an occurance that happens more to males to females. Battle fire is a deadly rage that overcomes the possessee (I don't figure that's a word) and also blinds most of their actions and can swerve their choices, normally for the worse. So when Troy Rayfire is born, the next Rayfire in line, trouble was bound to follow...

Sure enough, Troy becomes no stranger to battle fire and was getting into a fixes often. That was until his aunt, Mira, was murdered by Sophia, the Tyrant Queen of the Empire. And, driven by battle fire, grief and loss, he swears a vow before her very self: That she'll be slain by his own hands.

The story starts when Troy has reached the age of 18 and, after a mysterious dream, awakens to hear voices outside the window. And, listening to these voices, Troy makes up his mind and follows his dream, and leaves to go roaming, leaving his family in a state of turmoil: Father is proud though distarught, and Lily, his 15-year-old sister, promises to follow when she gets the chance.

Now if there's one thing about Troy that you've gotta know is that his past wasn't a great one, and his scars still run deep. This has a big effect in later chapters. Because he was born in the Forest of Tahlia with his family and friends, they moved south where it was safer and there the band dispersed. But he met a certain someone along the way, called Zafina. And, suprise suprise, they fall in love. The only drawback is that Zafina could See and had the art of a Seer. So, one night, when she took his hand and said theat they'd meet again someday, he knew what to expect. And sure enough, after a skirmish, she disappeared, and Troy hasn't been the same since.

Anyway. So Troy begins roaming. I won't go into too much detail, only that, like always, he's being followed by trouble. He finds himself aboard the Seapecker, captained by his friend of infant days, Joel Hilltye. And amongst the crew there's also Eva Raithorn, the healer...

Joel, Eva, Troy, Mattalin (a healer also), and Bill and Will (a pair of zany, identical twins) arrive at the lair of Axsarenz, a strange, mystic spirit of burnt umber. There, Troy is treated like an outsider. Just because of his name. He leads a fairly normal life from there, but it was too good to last and, naturally, guess what? He got in even more trouble. He discovers who his true comrades are as his world falls to pieces. And love is in the air...

But his vows aren't forgotten: To slay Sophia; and to slay her twin brother, Gavin. Can Troy fulfil these vows? And can he escape Lynyza's revenge...?
