To form a story, characters are essentials. I have decided that, to help you get to grips with the characters in Rayfire so far, to create this lowdown. There are the four fields - Type of Character (either main, minor or essential); their means of arms; his/her aspects; and, lastly, any relatives they may have. I 'spose you could call it a profile or a factfile, too. If you have anything to say, just sign the Guestbook. =P
I decided to make this page a little more interesting and improve the mini factfiles by turning some of them into bios - Kylie has done mini bios and they're much more interesting to read. Mine are nowhere near as good, but who cares?! So, I owe the credit to her.

Cantero - (CAHN-ter-roh); Macarino - (MACK-ker-REE-noh)

Type of Character: Essential, but not main.
Means of arms: Battle axe.
William, when he was a boy, was zealous and full of life. However, underneath this attitude, he was lonely. He and his sister Sarose hadn't really got on, so he left home when he was just fourteen. However, he didn't understand what he was bargaining for and, naturally, ran straight into trouble, in the form of a gang if foes. They were about to slay him when suddenly they were ambushed. William found himself amid his relatives - and that included Sarose. She had left their home also and had found a motley selection of warriors and decided to join them. This is how William met Mira, who was in this band.
Both got married some years later - Mira, aged twenty-one, and William, aged twenty-four. The times had been hard, but both were overjoyed when Mira discovered she was pregnant. After fending for themselves and blundering around the north, seven years later, they and the whole camp decided to head south, where the land was more lush and where tbere were less foes.
They arrived, a season later, at Zawihern. The band dispersed to find places to fend for themselves, which included Sarose, whose heart had been won. Troy was seven years old, but he was already shaping up as a warrior. Lily was just four at the time, and was always seen with Troy.
When Mira died (aged thirty-five), William took to being a proper farmer so he could fend for his family. He had kept all of the parting gifts his comrades had given him long ago, which included weaponary. Troy and Lily used this to practice fencing, archery, etc.
This is also how Troy recieved Rayfire. Just days before she died, Mira had given Rayfire to William and told him that she would soon be slain, and that Troy was to have the blade next. Needless to say, he used it well.
Relations: A wife, Mira Cicely Rayfire (deceased); two children, Troy Rayfire, eldest (18); Lily Rayfire, youngest (15); Brother to Sarose; Uncle to Mattalin Evenslate, (33); Joel Hilltye, (19).

Type of character: Minor
Means of Arms: N/A
When Sarose left home to follow William, their father - his real name being Trevor Rayfire, which he hates - left hurridly also to his friends. He knew for a fact that they were camping in the Forest of Tahlia to the north, so he left to join them at long last.
His wife died when William was born.
Relations: A wife, name unknown (deceased); two children, Sarose and William; two grandchildren, Troy and Lily Rayfire; Daughters-in-Law, Mira Rose Rayfire (deceased), Erin May Rayfire and Cicely Rayfire.

Type of character: Main
Means of Arms: Rayfire, rapier, dagger, sabre. Longbow & jarrows (cross between arrows and javelins).
Troy was bestowed with a lot of grief and pain at a young age. His 'aunt' died, as did many friends he had gained. So, when he was bestowed with Rayfire when he was merely twelve, he had several vows to make. He has a complex character - it's quite hard sometimes to work out how he's gonna react to something. And yeah, all the way through the book I make it out that he is just bananas! I.e., he is always smiling or whatever. This you could argue is just his character: but there's another reason. He was heart broken when he was merely seven years old and that helped harden him a lot. And although his heart was shattered, he can't help but keep on loving Zafina with all of the little pieces.
Because she had disappeared.
Mira's death and Zafina's disappearance changed Troy. He became more hardened, and to him, the only good foe was a dead one - they had all casued him grief and pain. This isn't the best outlook, but, seeing as he had battle fire to back him up here, William left him to it, knowing that he couldn't stop him anyway.
When Troy met Eva, it took him a while to notice that he actually loved her. it occured when he was asked by Lynyza (in later chapters) who had his heart. And, just like that, he realised who he had given it to, and he wouldn't let Zafina stand in the way of his future, but as he looks over his past a lot he's uncertain at first and unsure how to present himself. In the end, he's just himself - it worked for Zafina, so why not Eva?

Troy has piercing green eyes. That's his best aspect and I tried to get it across that, although his eyes are beautiful, they're deadly because he is possessed of battle fire. He also has uncontrollable fiery-chestnut hair that Elaine and Raffia totally adore. He's honest, loyal, and has the most random sense of humour - he can still make a joke with a blade at his neck. However, battle fire can stand in the way of his actions. Bound to his oaths and the code of Rayfires. He adores seedcakes. Is loyal, witty, cunning and - I admit - maybe a bit zany, though he is a fantastic dare devil. Or maybe he's just a total idiot. You decide. =P.
Relations: Though he doesn't know it, son to Mira Cicely (deceased) & William Cantero Arnold Macorino Rayfire. Brother to Lily. Cousin to Joel Hilltye & Mattalin Evenslate.

Type of character: Minor
Means of Arms: His voice!!
---

Type of character: Minor
Means of Arms: N/A
A young doctor.
Relations: Neice to Timothy, 36.

Mattalin - (MATT-ah-lin)

Type of character: Minor
Means of Arms: Dishcloth (joke!).
Healer. Nursed Troy & Lily Rayfire when they were babes. Is very organized.
Relations: Daughter to Sarose, neice to William Rayfire. Cousin to Troy and Lily.

Type of character: Minor
Means of Arms: Dirk (a long knife).
Erin is Mira's sister and never got married. She was one of the band members who left Mira to fend for herself. As of her whereabouts, she lives somewhere to the far, far southwest. She's oddly prissy for a Rayfire, but she doesn't mind getting blood on her hands...
Relations: Sister to Mira & Cicely. Aunt to Troy & Lily; Sister-in-Law to William.

Axsarenz - (Ax-SIR-renz)

Type of character: Minor-ish, but essential
Means of Arms: N/A
Axsarenz started building an army on Woodbreeze Isle as soon as Sophia seized the throne, a.k.a, when Troy was merely eight. He is immortal and approached Troy in a dream, telling him to come to the isle. Troy does this and Axsarenz doesn't regret his choice for a second. Naturally!
Axsarenz is a powerful spirit of burnt umber, with depthless onyx eyes, that, if you were to look into them, are like never-ending pools of darkness.
Relations: N/A

Type of character: Main
Means of Arms: Poisiontip, a dagger
Lily was just four years old and was very close to Troy when she arrived in Zawihern. The Fates had been kind to her, but they were getting worse with each day. Little did she know that with each breath, Troy was getting more and more restless. Only when she was fifteen did she notice, and, after several mental arguements, she decides to let him go roaming. She has a wit that's as dry as the Great Sand Dunes and a sharp tongue, and is quite a tomboy (i.e., she can't stick Raffia and Elaine). She's caring, determined and cheery (mostly, anyway), though can be shy and sensitive. And if you get on the wrong side of her... ouch. Lily was eleven when she was entrusted with her dagger, Poisontip.
Relations: Though she doesn't know it, daughter to Mira Cicely (deceased) & William Cantero Arnold Macorino Rayfire. Sister to Troy. Cousin to Joel Hilltye & Mattalin Evenslate.

Raffia - (RAH-fee-ah); Elaine - (EH-lain)

Type of characters: Minor, but the source of most humour. =]
Means of Arms: N/A
These two are always on the look out for availables crushes. They also seem to host a Troy Rayfire Fanclub...
Raffia's father owns the blacksmiths in Zawihern and has no mother. Elaine lives with her aunt, who owns the bakery. However, despite her bribes to Troy (she thinks the way to his heart is through his stomach, poor idiot), they always end up anywhere but his stomach.
Relations: N/A

Type of character: Minor, but essential
Means of Arms: Gavin is a guy for cutlasses and swords. Ones that have been crafted badly, mind.
Gavin is a typical Tyrant - he wants the Empire for himself, rather than Sophia (his twin) having it. He meets Troy in Zawihern and is swiftly taught a harsh lesson (See Chap. 4). With these memories still painfully raw, he sets about trying to hurt Troy in return.
Relations: Twin brother to Sophia Verity, alias Eel Queen, as named by Troy & Lily Rayfire.

Type of Character: Minor
Means of Arms: N/A
He claims he's wise, but really he isn't.
Relations: N/A

Joel - (JOLE) - rhymes with 'mole, sole', etc.

Type of character: Main
Means of Arms: Freefoe, a sabre. Plus javelins.
Captain of the Waterfly; owns a blade named Freefoe. Quick, witty and loyal. Very forgiving, and not exactly organized. Dreamy. He met Troy at the encampment and a friendship was formed in just minutes.
Relations: Son to Cicely Hilltye (previously Rayfire) & Ferndun. 7 sisters, 4 brothers; nephew to Mira Rose and Erin May Rayfire. Cousin to Troy & Lily Rayfire.
Type of characters: Somewhere in-between minor and main.
Means of Arms: Blades - Eaglefang (Bill's) & Eagleclaw (Will's).
These two tend to talk in unison.
Relations: A younger sister. An Uncle, Ernest.

Type of character: Main
Means of Arms: Rapier.
Eva lived deep in some woods to the north-ish. She left her mother and brother, Tymmi, to go to Woodbreeze Isle to become a healer. She met the Waterfly's crew and went with them.
When she meets Troy, Eva struck up a timid friendship. However, it grew more confident, until the Redfang comes sailing along and Troy reveals the reason he's a Rayfire. After that, Eva feels she isn't worth enough - she's just a healer!
However, she can't help but get along with Troy and in the end they are closer then close. It's then that she notices her feelings for him. Troy is more open with her then anybody else and she realises that she loves him in Wrennlayla (this is in Chap. 31).
Relations: One Mother. A brother, Tymmi (16).
